Camping and White Water Rafting

The weekend of July 4th was a wonderful experience for both me and Ashwin. When my friend Kim invited us to join her boyfriend Josh and her for a camping and white water rafting expedition to Maine, I knew I had to try it out. White water rafting is something I’ve always wanted to do. It was an unforgetful experience filled with fun and excitement.

We arrived at the Northern Outdoors campgroud in The Forks, Maine on the evening of July 1st. It was already beginning to get dark with overcast clouds. Without wasting anymore time, we decided to put up our tents and set up the picnic table and canopy. It wasn’t raining yet so we were able to start the campfire… An hour later, the thunder storms began and it continued to rain for the rest of the evening into next morning.

On the morning of July 2nd, we woke up early to get ready for our water rafting expedition in the Kennebec river. It was pouring and we were disappointed with the weather. We gathered at the resort where we had breakfast and filled the necessary forms. Following that was a brief session where an experinced guide gave us some lessons and demonstrations on water rafting. We boarded the bus at 9:30 am and headed out to the top of the river. The clouds were cleared out by the time we hit the river. We had a wonderful experienced guide who provided a supportive and relaxed environment. We had a team of eight adults and were the leading batch. It was an enjoyable experience and I will certainly do it again.
After the eleven mile rafting experience, we were ready for our lunch. The company provided us with an option of steak, teriyaki chicken, veggie burger along with pasta salad, fried rice and cookies. Following lunch was a video session where we could see all the rating pictures and video.

On July 3rd, we went hiking at the Moxie Falls before making our way back home.

Overall, it was a fun experience. Many thanks to Josh for the wonderful food he prepared on his outdoor grill. We had BBQ chicken and corn on day one and steak, veggie skewers and potatoes on day two. I’ll be sure to try those at home. Also many thanks to Kim, our bug killer!!!
For those who have been thinking about white water rafting, please do try it. It is an experience you’ll never forget and all for the good reasons. Please check my Photo Gallery for pictures.

Cheers.
